Not goliardia, but sexual violence. Thus the judge defined and consequently punished a gesture that ended up in the news before in court, which went live on TV. It is about the slap on the back of the journalist Greta Beccaglia after Empoli-Fiorentina, on the evening of 27 November 2021. The investigating judge Antonio Pezzuti sentenced the restaurateur from the Marches with the abbreviated procedure Andrew Serrani to 1 year and six months’ imprisonment.
The man will not go to jail. The judge ordered the suspension of the sentence for five years. Serrani will have to participate in specific courses in institutions that deal with prevention, psychological assistance and recovery of people convicted of sexual violenceand.
The restaurateur will then have to compensate Greta Beccaglia. While waiting for the civil court to decide the entire amount, he will have to pay a provisional amount of 15,000 euros. In the ruling also an indemnity of 10 thousand euros in favor of the national and Tuscan Order of Journalists and the Italian Press Association, entities that had filed a civil action.
The investigators of the Digos identified Serrani, cross-referencing the TV video with the footage from the surveillance cameras of the stadium and the turnstiles. The restaurateur said: «We had lost and I made that gesture out of annoyance and goliardia. It’s not an act of sexism.” The judges didn’t think so.
