Environmental activist Greta Thunberg and Pope Francis are among the nominees for the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.
In addition to them, the British environmentalist David Attenborough; the World Health Organization (WHO); Belarusian dissident Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya; Myanmar’s National Unity government, made up of opponents of last year’s coup, and Tuvalu’s Foreign Minister Simon Kofe.
Attenborough, the WHO and Tsikhanouskaya have been supported by Norwegian parliamentarians who have nominated one of the eventual Peace Laureates every year since 2014, with the exception of 2019.
This year’s winner will be announced in October.
Officially, the nominees for the award can only be revealed after 50 years. However, some of those eligible to propose candidates choose to reveal their choices.
Last year, the category winners were journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov, recognized for their fight in defense of freedom of expression.
