Greta Thunberg takes part in pro-Palestine protest in Germany

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was seen taking part in a pro-Palestinian protest in Germany this Friday (7 June). The event takes place in the city of Bonn, which currently hosts the Climate Change Conference, in preparation for COP29, in November.

Organizers of the ‘Kick Big Polluters Out’ protest called for oil and gas companies to be held accountable for their actions in enabling Gaza’s genocide, systemic violence and fueling the climate crisis. The group also demands that the UN limit the influence of so-called ‘big polluters’ in climate negotiations.

They also called for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the “repression” of those who speak out in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Protests to end the war led to the temporary suspension of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bonn, after a group of activists invaded the event stage during the opening speech by UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell.

The Bonn Climate Conference runs until June 13 and is seen as a preview of the international climate negotiations that will take shape at COP29 in November.
