Grid Telecom is developing a Fiber Optic Immersion Station in Crete

IPTO’s subsidiary, Grid Telecom, focused on upgrading the telecommunications services it provides to national and international providers, includes in its immediate planning the construction of a new Fiber Optic Cable Landing Station (CLS) on the south side of Crete.

The new cable station will serve as a reception point for international submarine fiber optic cable systems being developed in the Eastern Mediterranean, connecting Greece and the wider Balkan region with multiple destinations to Europe and Asia.

With the new infrastructure, Grid Telecom will be able to provide high-reliability connectivity, through alternative fiber optic routes, with existing and new Data Centers in Crete, mainland Greece and consequently the neighboring countries, utilizing both the submarine cable systems. MINOAS East-West and APOLLO East-West as well as its extensive terrestrial optical network.

IPTO subsidiary will offer all the necessary infrastructure for the safe grounding, operation and further interconnection of fiber optic cable systems with terrestrial and submarine telecommunication networks. In addition, it intends to provide technical support and maintenance services at the level of infrastructure and business applications.

Grid Telecom’s partnership with submarine cable system operators will provide an open access interface to wholesale customers, ensuring data transmission with state-of-the-art technology of international scope in South East Europe and beyond.
