An inspection action by Procon-MG, carried out between the months of September and October, resulted in the seizure of 2.3 tons of food unfit for consumption and the total closure of four establishments, in Conceição das Alagoas, in the Triângulo Mineiro.
In a grocery store, belonging to a councilor, inspectors found food products with expired expiration dates, without mandatory information. Others, of animal origin, were without proper registration and inspection seal.
In the same production area, there were domestic animals and, alongside the cheeses, washing was produced for pig feed. Additionally, cheeses were being produced in repurposed fertilizer packaging.
According to inspectors, at the back of the establishment there was an area for handling the production of products of animal origin, such as cheeses, sausages and others, without any type of authorization or license for operation, which took place in a precarious manner and in completely unsanitary conditions. In addition, inspectors found products that were decomposing and improperly packaged.
The councilor was arrested for producing and selling products outside of safety and quality specifications. He was taken to the Uberaba police station, where he was interviewed and subsequently released by the courts.
He must answer for a crime against consumer relations and for selling counterfeit or deteriorated merchandise as true or perfect.
“There were signs of a crime against consumer safety detected at the scene. Thus, the person responsible was arrested in the act and he was taken to the police station where the police officer ratified the arrest. We have now made a precautionary request to impose measures so that the ban on the sale of products of animal origin and dairy products remains in the establishment owned by the councilor”, explains Rodrigo Lionel Barbosa, prosecutor at the 1st Public Prosecutor’s Office of Conceição das Alagoas.
According to the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais, in total, 15 establishments were inspected, of which 13 were fined, two with partial bans on activities.
