The man identified as Tancredo Neves, 26 years old, confessed that he killed delegate Patrícia Aires, 39, this weekend in the interior of Bahia.
After going through a custody hearing on Monday (12), he said he used the car’s seatbelt to defend himself from alleged aggression during an argument with his partner. He allegedly suffocated her for about 40 seconds.
Initially, Tancredo Neves told the police that the couple had been kidnapped, but later admitted that he had made up the story. The suspect’s arrest was converted into a preventive arrest.
The information and chronology of the crime were detailed during a press conference held this Tuesday (13), at the Bahia Public Security Secretariat, in Salvador. All the delegates involved in the investigation of this femicide participated in the meeting with the press.
Patrícia was found dead on Sunday (11), inside her own car, in a wooded area in the metropolitan region of Salvador. The two had reportedly left Santo Antônio de Jesus, where the victim lived, heading to the capital of Bahia.
According to the suspect, the two went out to dinner and the police officer had gotten drunk. He said that, during the trip, they had stopped to go to the bathroom. This version of events was disputed by the Civil Police. On the way, they talked about ending the relationship and then a fight began with threats and aggression.
The couple met in November 2023 and the relationship began about four months ago. According to investigations, their relationship was marked by aggression. According to the Civil Police, the man also said that he would marry the delegate this Wednesday (14).
Tancredo Neves has 26 police records, all for assault. He is also being investigated for illegally practicing medicine.
Patrícia Aires was born in Recife (PE) and leaves behind a son. A specialist in criminal law and criminal procedure, she took office as a delegate in Bahia in 2016, having worked in several cities until working as a duty officer in Santo Antônio de Jesus.
The murdered delegate had a strong presence in the fight against gender-based violence and even worked at the Specialized Center for Women’s Assistance (Neam).
