Group suspected of bank fraud is target of mega operation in SP, SC and GO

A mega-operation takes place this Wednesday morning (9), against a gang specializing in bank fraud in São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Goiás.

The action carried out jointly between the Civil and Military Police of São Paulo and the Cybercrime Investigation Group (Cybergaeco), of the Public Ministry, aims to execute 57 search and seizure warrants and six arrest warrants in the three Brazilian states.

According to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP), investigations indicate that the group caused losses of approximately R$3.5 million to a financial institution.

The investigations also indicate that the gang took advantage of a weakness in a bank’s collateral control system to carry out false transactions, using accounts in the names of people who were not the true beneficiaries of the resources deposited in them.

The ministry states that the group used billing devices linked to fake commercial establishments to simulate legitimate transactions and deceive victims.

Around 280 public agents participate in the operation, which is still ongoing.
