The year 2023 should be more challenging for Grupo Soma in terms of revenue growth, given macroeconomic factors including high interest rates, but the company should show an increase in gross margin, said Roberto Jatahy, president of the company, this Wednesday. fair (8).
“The year 2023 should be a more challenging year when we talk about growth, not only because comparable bases are becoming more challenging, but also because of the difficult economic scenario and in particular the high level expected for the Selic this year”, said the executive, in conference with analysts.
The country’s basic interest rate is currently at 13.75% and the market projection according to the Focus survey is that it will end the year at a level 1 percentage point lower.
Jatahy added that it is “difficult” to predict how much Grupo Soma, owner of brands such as Hering, Farm and Animale, will be able to compensate for this scenario with market share gain, in the midst of a strong competitive environment.
The group published on the eve an adjusted net profit of 99.3 million from October to December, up 14.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, in a quarter impacted by the colder weather and the World Cup.
Even so, the company’s shares rose 6.26%, to R$ 8.83, in the early afternoon of this Wednesday, having renewed session highs during the conference. The Ibovespa also accelerated gains and rose 2.2%.
Grupo Soma acquired Hering in 2021, currently the company’s biggest revenue generator, and analysts have been closely observing the restructuring carried out at the brand, in particular the measures to increase revenue and gross margin.
Jatahy stated that the Soma Group’s gross margin should increase in 2023, as Hering should capture the effects of measures that are being implemented, either in the store environment or in the structure with suppliers and partners. The group’s other brands, on the other hand, should show a stable margin.
Asked about potential acquisitions, Jatahy said he does not see any assets in Brazil that are of interest to the company at the moment.
