“The measures announced by the government to deal with the accuracy of the energy market are relieved by small and medium-sized enterprises and households,” the General Confederation of Professional Craftsmen of Greece (GSEVEE) said in a statement, commenting on the government measures announced today.
However, as GSEVEE notes, they fall short of real needs for three main reasons:
First, increases in the price of gas and electricity became particularly apparent in the early second half of 2021. The Russo-Ukrainian War accelerated increases in energy prices. Therefore, the return to the prices of December 2021, which is attempted with the interventions announced, does not cover all the increases that resulted from the initial manifestation of the energy crisis. Indicatively, according to IPTO data, the price of MWH while in the first half of 2021 was in the range of 60 euros, in the 7th / 2021 it reaches 98 to close the 12th / 2021 at 264 euros. Based on these, it is reasonable to consider whether the announced subsidies per megawatt hour are enough to offer the necessary relief to households and businesses.
Secondly, we believe that the retroactive return of 60% of the increase in electricity bills announced for households should also apply to businesses, especially small and very small ones that face serious liquidity problems and lack access to the banking system.
Thirdly, the measures lack permanent structural interventions that will regulate a market that manages a public good. Such measures are: legislative abolition of the adjustment clause, fixed price per kilowatt hour for at least one year, change in the method of calculating the price of electricity depending on the most expensive provider, temporary suspension of pollutant rights and operation of lignite plants as long as we have lignite reserves.
Finally, we ask that the RAE report on the profits of energy providers be made public.
