In these difficult times, any measures taken to alleviate business and households are obviously welcome. However, the measures announced by Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis and analyzed by the relevant government ministers, despite being positive, are not enough to create the strong embankment that businesses and households need to cope with the storm of price increases they experience daily. states in its announcement the GSEVEE.
According to the Confederation, it is an “aid measure” but not a “solution to the inflation threat”.
“With the rate at which the prices of energy and raw materials (cereals, oils, etc.) are increasing, we are afraid that we are rapidly re-impoverishing Greek society. We believe that the measures announced should be supplemented with additional ones”, notes GSEVEE.
In fact, the Confederation is making proposals, which are the following:
Full coverage of additional energy costs for small and medium enterprises and households.
– Ceiling in energy prices and reduction of the Excise Tax on fuel.
– Reduction of VAT to 6% in catering and all food, with the exception of luxury items.
Increase in the share of aid for small and medium-sized enterprises and the self-employed, out of the total grants. This presupposes in addition to the specialization of the 1st intervention announced by the Minister of Finance and the increase of the total amount (640 million €).
– Market control at all scales (and not only in trade) to identify profiteering phenomena and to make sure that there are unjustified price increases.
– Conversion of Repayable to Non-Refundable Advances for all debts. Further increase of the repayment period (from 60 to 96 installments) recognizes the problem but does not solve it. It just shifts it once again.
– Freezing of debts to the State that were created during the pandemic.
“Finally, on the occasion of the comment of the competent Minister of Finance who acknowledged that the measures put a brake on the increases without fully covering them, we emphasize that sometimes the brake does not prevent the accident…”, concludes GSEVEE
