Rockstar recently confirmed that they are actively working on GTA VI. According to recent data published by analyst Wedbush Securities, the active phase of development of a new game began in 2014.

GTA VI has been in development since 2014. Maybe they weren’t writing code back then while they were making up the story, but by 2015 they were already writing code. Anyone who is naive enough to think that Rockstar with its 2000 employees is sitting back and twiddling their thumbs… No, they’re not, these guys are hard at work making amazing content, but GTA VI will take 10 years or more. The reason is, as I understand it, it’s a mixture of Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City (i.e. GTA III) and Europe, London for sure. You will be able to go anywhere on these continents and you will have missions that will take you to all these places.
Probably by the time they release it, the game will be literally four or five hundred hours long. This is what they are doing now, this is what they have turned GTA VI into. I understand because they say we’ll charge you 60 bucks and then we’ll give you an online experience and you’ll have to ship drugs from London to LA, you’ll have to go through the port to Miami. They’re going to do all these really cool things.
That is, according to these data, GTA VI will be a truly gigantic game, the passage of which will take 400-500 hours. Of course, even now there are story games that can be played for longer, but it is not yet clear in which particular format of passage for GTA VI it will take so long.
It will probably be the largest open world in the history of the gaming industry. And given that Rockstar knows how to make such games almost the best, the project can become even more iconic than the current part.
Regarding the release date of the game, the analyst did not say anything, but previously there were various data indicating the release of the game in 2024. But GTA VI should be announced this fall.
