Guandu system stoppage starts today; Rio and Baixada will have cut

The State Water and Sewage Company of Rio de Janeiro (Cedae) announced that it will paralyze the Guandu System This Tuesday (20), from 0h to 20h, to perform preventive maintenance. The action focuses on the modernization of the structure and the operational improvement of the supply system, considered the largest in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro.

During the period, water production will be temporarily interrupted, affecting the supply to the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, Duque de Caxias, São João de Meriti, Nova Iguaçu, Mesquita, Nilópolis, Belford Roxo and Queimados.

Among the expected improvements, the company highlighted the installation of macromeders – equipment capable of measuring large volumes of water more accurately. According to CEDAE, this modernization will allow more efficient control of the system, contributing to the reduction of losses and greater operational safety. In addition, technical adjustments, repairs and structural interventions will be made at various points in the network.

“These services are essential to ensure the continuity of the full operation of the water production system. With them, we have been able to identify and correct failures in a preventive manner, and more accurately verify the volume of water provided by the dealers,” explained Daniel Okumura, director of sanitation and great operation of Cedae.

The responsibility for the distribution of water after capture and treatment is the concessionaires Águas do Rio, Iguá and Rio+Sanitation, according to their respective areas of expertise. The provision is expected to begin to be gradually normalized after the completion of services, but CEDAE recommends conscious use of water throughout this day.
