In an interview with CNNthe mayor of the city of Guarapuava, in the interior of Paraná, Celso Fernando Góes, said that the gang that tried to rob a valuables carrier on Sunday night (17) did not have time to reach the company’s main safe.
“We were attacked by a true terrorism, by more than 30 “marginals” who totally terrified our city, but who had their actions frustrated”, he said.
According to the mayor, about 200 military police are working in the operation to find those responsible, who would have moved through the rural area of the city. So far, eight “highly equipped” vehicles have been seized by authorities.
“They were focused on a company of values, which has its headquarters in Guarapuava. So the number of values should be very significant, as it is an Easter finale – they went looking for exactly that”.
The criminals also attacked a battalion of the Military Police, in an attempt to make it difficult for the authorities to act. However, according to the mayor, “the teams were already on the street, they were not tied to the barracks”.
From the team that was at the scene, two police officers were shot: one in the leg and the other in the head. A civilian was also hit.
“Guarapuava is a very extensive municipality, very large, it has almost 5 thousand kilometers of rural roads, and they got involved in this type of logistics”, explained the mayor.
At this moment, the urban area of the city has returned to normality, with shops and schools operating, said Góes. According to him, the recommendation for the population living in rural areas is to report any unusual activities by dialing 190.
