Luxury brand Gucci will add support for cryptocurrency payments in May. The feature will first roll out to select stores in the US, and then to all locations in North America.
how informs edition of Vogue Business, a full-fledged launch of paying for Gucci luxury items with cryptocurrencies should take place this summer. Apparently, to support payments in digital assets, the brand has entered into an agreement with the payment operator BitPay – this is hinted at by the list of supported cryptocurrencies. It will be possible to pay for goods using BTC, BCH, LTC, ETH and DOGE. It also supports multiple stablecoin options and SHIB and wBTC tokens.
Customers of Gucci stores will receive a QR code by e-mail, with which they can link their e-wallet to the system and make a payment. There will also be support for contactless payments – almost the same as when paying through Apple Pay and Google Pay.
“Gucci is always looking to embrace new technologies when they create new opportunities for our customers. We can now integrate cryptocurrencies into our payment system, so it is only natural that we will provide this opportunity to those customers who want to use it,” said Gucci CEO and President Marco Bizzarri.
Recall that in 2022 the brand significantly increased the number of initiatives within the metaverse, NFT and Web3. So, in February, the Gucci store appeared in the metaverse of The Sandbox, and plans to enter the NFT sphere were announced back in April last year.
