The Ministry of Economy sent an official letter to the rapporteur of the 2022 Budget, Deputy Hugo Leal (PSD-RJ), and to the President of the Mixed Budget Committee, Senator Rose de Freitas (MDB-ES), asking that R$ 2, 5 billion from the 2022 government budget are set aside to be used with the career restructuring of civil servants. The congressman may accept or reject the government’s claim.
In the document, minister Paulo Guedes says that the amount will be used “in view of the decision of the President of the Republic regarding the restructuring of certain careers of the Federal Executive Power”. The document does not inform which categories will be served. The folder also asked for authorization to issue R$ 355 million in government bonds next year to enable the salary increases.
The folder emphasizes that the increase in primary expenditures must be compatible with the fiscal target for the year and the limit established by the spending ceiling rule.
On Wednesday (15), Economy Minister Paulo Guedes had already indicated that he would comply with Bolsonaro’s request to benefit specific careers. “It has to be specific and limited,” he said. President Jair Bolsonaro had promised salary increases for federal police, federal highway police and correctional officers.
On the same occasion, the minister took a stand against the granting of generalized increases, another promise made earlier by the president.
“If everyone starts to ask for salary readjustments again, all the municipalities, which have improved conditions, all the States and the Union, which have managed to rebalance themselves fiscally, everyone who rose will start to fall again, and then we will sustain an inflation”, said Guedes.
