Guedes: tax reform is the most important to be carried out by the government

The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, said in a tax interview with a radio, this Monday (19) that the tax reform is the most important for the government. Guedes was also asked which privatization would be the priority in a possible second term of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), but he did not respond.

“You ask which is the most important, I consider the tax. We are trying a tax reform in parts, because we have reduced taxes on fuel, on telecommunications, on transport, on the electricity sector, which are indirect taxes,” said the minister.

Guedes also added that payroll taxes are “weapons of mass destruction of jobs”. The minister attributed the high labor tax burden to the existence of the 38 million invisible people during the pandemic that led the government to create emergency aid.

“They were people who sold things at traffic lights, sold bottles of water at football games, and suddenly these activities ended and 38 million Brazilian invisible people appeared, who work, wake up early. We have to eliminate these perverse taxes.”, highlighted the minister.

Guedes concluded by reaffirming that Brazil has its own growth dynamics, and even if the global economy faces a recession next year, Brazil should not be affected.

“We are in a position to grow 3% again, from then on, in two, three, four or five years, easily, if we continue with our agenda of transition to a mass consumer market economy.”, Guedes said. .
