Economy Minister Paulo Guedes has told interlocutors that he has not appointed his special management secretary, Caio Paes de Andrade, to be in command of Petrobras.
As soon as his name was considered, Andrade had his technical ability to assume the post questioned. This Wednesday, when asked about the possible nomination of Paes de Andrade, the vice president of the Republic Hamilton Mourão declared that “in reality he has no experience in this area of oil and gas. He has experience as a manager, but not specifically in this area, and due to Petrobras’ own compliance and accountability rules, it is difficult for you to bring in someone who has no experience in this area.”
Amidst the uncertainties, Guedes has stated that he does not interfere in the area of others and attributes responsibility for the sector’s indications to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque. The Minister of Economy, however, was directly responsible for appointing the first president of Petrobras in the Bolsonaro administration, economist Roberto Castello Branco. At the time, Guedes suggested as options for Petrobras both the name of Castello Branco and that of Wilson Ferreira, former president of Eletrobras.
After a series of frustrated nominations, Minister Bento Albuquerque told CNN that before announcing the name of the new nominees, he will adopt “a lot of prudence, responsibility and skill”. He met this Tuesday with President Jair Bolsonaro, but there was no definition. Faced with the difficulty in coming up with the name, the government does not rule out changing the date of the Petrobras Shareholders’ Meeting, currently scheduled for April 13.
Sought, the Ministry of Economy did not manifest.
