“Spider-Man: No Homecoming” has not only broken box office records. The release of the new hero movie also helped the actors Tobey Maguire e Willem Dafoe to beat the longest career mark playing the same Marvel characters: 19 years and 225 days. The record was registered this week on the Guinness World Records website.
Maguire donned the Spider-Man (and Peter Parker) costume for the first time in May 2002 in “Spider-Man”; in the same film, Dafoe played the villain Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. Both characters returned to the screen this year in “No Return Home”, whose plot explores the entire multiverse of the iconic character. This return was what allowed the records to be broken, as both had left the roles after the end of that trilogy, with “Spider-Man 3”, from 2007.
Previously, this brand was owned by actors Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, Wolwerine and Professor X, respectively, from the X-Men franchise. Both debuted in roles in “X-Men: The Movie” in 2000, and went on to retire the characters in “Logan” in 2017 – a period of 16 years and 232 days.
In addition to Maguire and Dafoe’s record, Guinness has confirmed yet another “Spider-Man: No Return Home” brand. The official trailer for the film was the most viewed in the first 24 hours after its release, with more than 355 million hits.
