Guitarist Carlos Santana cancels shows after heart surgery

The legendary Mexican guitarist Carlos Santana announced the cancellation of the concert schedule he had planned for the month of December. The multi-instrumentalist had to undergo unexpected heart surgery.

On a video Published on the artist’s social networks, the leader of the band Santana said that, last Saturday (27), he asked his wife to take him to the hospital because he was feeling “discomfort in his chest”.

The guitarist said he is “taking care of himself” and needs recovery “so he can go back to performing the way he’s used to.” “I’m going to take a break to make sure I’m refueling and resting,” he said.

The “House of Blues” hotel, resort and casino in Las Vegas had announced a series of Santana shows on Wednesdays and weekends in the first half of December.

“I’m sorry to report that the band Santana has canceled the remaining December 2021 performances at The House of Blues in Las Vegas. The band’s iconic leader Carlos Santana underwent an unexpected cardiac procedure, which affected his performance in Las Vegas. Carlos is doing very well and is looking forward to returning to the stage soon”, said Michael Vrionis, president of the company that manages the band, in a statement.

“He deeply regrets that this “obstacle” has required the cancellation of his upcoming performances. He is looking forward to seeing you all soon,” the statement ends.

With more than five decades of career, Carlos Santana has become one of the best known guitarists in the world.

The group “Santana”, formed in an “Afro-Latin-blues-rock fusion” in the American city of San Francisco, gained global recognition after performing at the legendary Woodstock festival in 1969 – the same year they released their self-titled debut album.

Since then, Santana has sold over 100 million records, reached over 100 million fans and won 10 Grammys. Including a record nine awards for a single project, the 1999 Supernatural album.

In 2009, Santana received the Billboard Latin Music Awards “for her body of work”.

He was also listed at #15 by Rolling Stone magazine on the “100 Greatest Guitar Players of All Time” list.
