Security crisis

Mexico is facing a security crisis linked to organized crime and drug cartel factions, which is one of the most pressing challenges for the country’s new president, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Since his inauguration on October 1, 2,788 homicides have been recorded in the country, according to an analysis of government data carried out by researcher TResearch.

Sheinbaum pledged to crack down on violent crime and unveiled a security plan aimed at increasing opportunities for vulnerable young people by improving information sharing among government institutions and strengthening the country’s National Guard.
