Gwyneth Paltrow and the nostalgia of the 90s, with people who “did cocaine and didn’t get caught”

Gwyneth Paltrow she’s thankful she stopped partying in the ’90s, long before everyone started carrying a camera in their pocket to document all the outrageous behavior.

The Goop founder made an appearance on the Late Late Show with James Corden Monday to promote his new four-part Audible series, The Goop Poursuit during which she admitted that she is not always as healthy as she is today. Paltrow was also joined on the show by a Hilary Swank heavily pregnant, who was there to talk about her role on the show Alaska Daily.

At a certain point, Corden he asked the two stars: «You both grew up in the the ninetieswho are currently experiencing a real Renaissance: the fashionthe musicas it was for both to be like this famous in a time when there were no i social media, nothing at all… what do you remember about that period?». Paltrow responded with a laugh, “It was amazing… I mean, talk about cocaine and don’t get caught! You could go to a bar and have fun, dance on a table, you could do it… without cell phones! Especially in New York, interestingly, there were no paparazzi. You could walk out of a bar and go home with some stranger without anyone knowing.”

In the course of the conversation, the two actresses also compared the results of theirs career and their first acting experiences: «You won yours Oscars in 1999?” Swank asked Paltrow, before adding that she won hers “right after” in 2000, high-fiving herself. Swank observed, “You were famous in the 90s and I wasn’t,” as her successful film, Boys Don’t Crywas released in 1999.

But while Gwyneth Paltrow may have fond memories of that time, she’s now focused on loving herself exactly as she is in the present moment. In 2021 she told People who while she still finds herself evaluating her own body with a «critical eye», she said: «I would like to get to a point where I don’t do it anymore. I want to show myself in a more loving way, because from here on everything falls apart! I’m focusing more on the basics of wellness, like meditation, hydration, nutrient-dense foods, and abstaining from alcohol, which I’ve been drinking far too much of during the pandemic! I never want to go back to my 20s, or even my 30s, for that matter. I know myself, I like myself, and I’m so thankful for the wisdom that comes with age.”
