“The Turkish Republic has perfectly fulfilled its duty as a guarantor of power in Cyprus and will continue to do so in the future,” said H. Akar, while accusing the Greek side of intransigence and “obsession with the status quo” even for ” discrimination against Turkish Cypriots”.
Speaking at the Armed Forces Day reception of the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”. the Turkish Defense Minister stated that Ankara has not found an answer “to all the proposals we have submitted with the tdvk for 30, 40, 50 years. All the proposals for a solution we made were met with an intransigent attitude and sticking to the status quo”.
As he characteristically added, “they tried to discriminate against the local Turkish Cypriot population. They made every effort so that no solution was implemented”.
“The Greek Cypriots must see the facts, the Turkish presence there, recognize the sovereignty and independence of the Turkish presence. They must also accept their right to live in safety and prosperity,” he added.
At the same time, he asked the third parties “to be objective and impartial in the Cyprus issue” and to have an equal understanding of the facts and “to accept the rights and justice of the Turkish Cypriots”.
According to Akar, Turkey and Turkish Cypriots do not allow the violation of their rights in the Aegean, the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus, calling on everyone not to consider our “statements for meeting and dialogue” as weakness.
