Hacker group REvil demands Apple ransom in XMR for stolen blueprints

The REvil hacker group, known for being infected with the ransomware virus of large companies, has sent a ransom demand to Apple in Monero. Otherwise, the hackers will publish blueprints for Apple devices.

At the same time, the Apple servers were not infected – the virus managed to penetrate the information systems of the Taiwanese hardware manufacturer Quanta Computer. The OEM has produced devices for Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Cisco, and other large companies. From Apple technology, Quanta Computer plants produced Apple Watch smart watches, Macbook Air and Macbook Pro laptops.

Apparently, Quanta refused to pay the hackers, and they decided to go directly to the companies, the drawings of the devices of which fell into their hands. Also, the hackers are “negotiating the sale of a large number of drawings and drawings, as well as gigabytes of personal data, with several major brands.”

However, while the “final countdown” for Quanta is not over yet – the company must pay $ 50 million in the anonymous cryptocurrency Monero (123,026 XMR) before April 27, or $ 100 million in XMR after the first deadline. As for Apple, the American corporation must pay the ransom by May 1, although the ransom amount has not been specified. Perhaps REvil’s claim against Apple is an additional leverage on Quanta Computer’s executives.

Quanta Computer is the second largest laptop OEM. Interestingly, the leader in terms of output – also the Taiwanese company Compal – came under attack from the DoppelPaymer ransomware virus in November last year. The attackers demanded 1,100 BTC ($ 16.7 million at the exchange rate at the time).

At the end of March, hackers from the REvil group demanded $ 50 million in XMR from the computer equipment manufacturer Acer – some of the company’s servers were encrypted.
