Hackers hacked into Twitter of the Prime Minister of India and announced the recognition of Bitcoin

Cybercriminals hacked into the personal Twitter account of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On his behalf, the hackers announced the distribution of 500 BTC as part of the recognition of Bitcoin in the country.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, scammers spread false information that Bitcoin is recognized as a means of payment in India and the distribution of 500 BTC among Indian citizens. One of the first to talk about it
reported Twitter user “Priya”. The content of the message was as follows:

“India has adopted Bitcoin as legal tender. The government has officially bought 500 BTC and is distributing it to all residents of the country. The future has come today! ”

The hackers urged citizens to register and claim their share of bitcoins. Below was a link that led to a fraudulent site. Soon the message was deleted, and the hack
confirmed the official account of the prime minister.

The Indian Prime Minister’s Twitter account has previously been compromised and used for cryptocurrency scams. The first time hackers hacked Modi’s Twitter account back in September 2020. Under the nickname “John Wick”, the cybercriminals called on the Prime Minister’s electorate to “Donate bitcoins to the National Relief Fund to Fight COVID-19.”

In 2020, there was a massive hack of Twitter accounts: Binance, CZ (founder of Binance), Coinbase, Gemini, Gate.io, Kucoin. Tron founder Justin Sun, popular trader AngeloBTC and news site CoinDesk, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Michael Bloomberg and many other famous people. However, Twitter users sent only 10 BTC to the attackers during the day. Coinbase and other exchanges reacted quickly and blocked addresses associated with hackers. The culprit was an eighteen-year-old American named Graham Ivan Clark. In 2021, he pleaded guilty to several cases of hacking of Twitter accounts through which he published calls to transfer bitcoins to him.
