Hackers stole $ 2.1 billion in cryptocurrencies for six months, this is a new anti -record, TRM Labs security experts said. The damage exceeded last year and was 10% more than the previous record of 2022.

The hacker attack on the BYBIT cryptocurrency in February became one of the most destructive events. North Korean cybercriminals were able to withdraw $ 1.5 billion from the exchange – this is almost 70% of the total loss of market participants in the first half of 2025, TRM Labs said. Only this one case raised the average amount of damage from attacks to $ 30 million – twice as higher than in the first half of 2024.

According to TRM Labs experts, in the first six months of the year 75 hacks were recorded. The main share of losses came to use vulnerabilities in the technical architecture of projects.

Cybercriminals usually get access to the SEED-frages of cryptocurrencies, or violate the operation of custom intercles user interfaces. These methods are based on key weaknesses of cryptographic systems and are often supported by elements of social engineering.

The second place in terms of damage was taken by attacks using the exploits of the protocols. Among them are attacks using instant loans (Flash loans), allowing hackers to manipulate market prices, as well as Re-Entrance-vascularity, with which attackers operate errors in updating smart contract data. These methods amounted to 12% of all recorded losses and were initially aimed at critical bugs in the code of decentralized applications.

TRM Labs experts said that in 2025, the character of Kiberatak underwent noticeable changes. Crypto -hinging has become not only a profit tool, but also part of the strategies used by state structures and politically motivated groups.

“The first half of the year has become a turning point in the evolution of attacks on digital assets: we observe an increase in activity from geopolitical entities that use cryptocurrencies as an instrument of influence,” the company’s specialists explained.

Previously, a decentralized Zklend lending protocol based on Starknet, several months ago subjected to a hacker attack in the amount of more than $ 9.5 million, announced the termination of activities.
