Russian law enforcement agencies announced the arrest of a suspect in the development of a computer virus to steal bitcoins from crypto wallets.
The police were investigating the theft of 20 BTC from a Moscow resident, Izvestia reports. At the time of the crime, the value of the stolen cryptocurrency was more than 28 million rubles. Now 20 BTC is valued at about 88 million rubles. A group of attackers managed to send the future victim a link to a special program that steals data and passwords from cryptocurrency wallets. The victim downloaded the program, and the hackers were able to withdraw everything that was there from his wallet.
So far, only one suspect has been arrested, and several others are still on the wanted list. A criminal case has been initiated.
Recall that in mid-January, the FSB conducted several raids to capture members of the REvil hacker group. Law enforcement authorities managed to confiscate more than 426 million rubles, including in cryptocurrency, 600,000 US dollars and 500,000 euros. 20 premium cars, computer equipment and hardware cryptocurrency wallets were also confiscated.
