Hackers withdrew $ 18.7 million tokens from Lympo platform

The Animoca Brands Lympo NFT platform announced a hack of its hot wallet, as a result of which the hackers withdrew 165.2 million LMT, and also posted the addresses of compromised user wallets.

According to a Lympo statement on Medium, the attackers managed to withdraw 165.2 million LMT tokens with a total value of $ 18.7 million. The following wallets were compromised during the hack:

Lympo said it has introduced safeguards to prevent leftover tokens from being stolen and to protect its users. The platform has warned that it is temporarily removing LMT from various liquidity pools in order to minimize token price fluctuations after the hack.

“Please note that most of the LMT reserve is in cold wallet storage and remained safe throughout the incident,” the statement said.

Lympo continues to investigate the cyberattack and is preparing a plan to eliminate its consequences. The platform team has assured LMT holders that it will make every effort to resume normal operations as soon as possible. At the same time, the operator Lympo did not post information that it had contacted law enforcement agencies or the cybersecurity agency in connection with the incident.

This is not the first case of a cyberattack on a cryptocurrency platform this year. Last week, the developers of the DeFi Tinyman project reported that hackers took advantage of a previously unknown vulnerability in a smart contract designed to burn tokens and withdrawn $ 3 million worth of crypto assets.

According to a report by analyst firm Chainalysis, losses from cryptocurrency crime last year grew 79% over 2020, thanks in large part to the growth of the DeFi industry. In total, cybercriminals stole $ 14 billion worth of cryptocurrencies in 2021.
