The future finance minister, Fernando Haddad, plans to hold his first press conference on the economic policy guidelines next Tuesday (13), in Brasília, after the markets close, at 6 pm, according to sources close to him.
On the same day, the government transition team should present the report with the diagnoses, priority measures and points of attention for the beginning of the mandate of the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
After being announced as the future responsible for the most important portfolio of the economy, on Friday (9), Haddad spent Saturday (10) in São Paulo, but returned to Brasília on Sunday (11) for political meetings with Lula, the elected vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), and other allies of the next government.
On the agenda of the conversations are the PEC that makes it possible to maintain R$ 600 as the base of the Auxílio Brasil (which will once again be called Bolsa Família), the additional R$ 150 per child up to 5 years old and other public policies when making an exception in the ceiling of expenses.
There are great expectations for the announcement of Haddad’s team, as well as for the name that will lead the Ministry of Planning and will work together with the Treasury, as defined by Lula himself.
In recent weeks, Haddad made public statements in which he defended the approval of a tax reform along the lines of PEC 45 as a priority, presented in the Chamber by deputy Baleia Rossi (MDB-SP) and idealized by economist Bernard Appy – he is one of those quoted for the future economic team, or as head of Planning, or in Haddad’s technical group.
In addition, both Haddad and Rui Costa, the future Chief of Staff, highlighted the importance of making public-private partnerships (PPPs) viable as a means of increasing investment in the country and of being able to manage with fiscal responsibility and control of public spending.
