The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, has already taken to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva the nomination of three “absolutely technical” names to occupy the two directorates of the Central Bank that will be up to the current government to fill in the coming weeks.
“I have my preference, but the names are already with him [Lula] and he is the one who will decide”, said Haddad, in an interview with CNN on the night of this Friday (10). “I took a more academic profile, a more technical profile and a more market profile. But they are all people who can make a contribution to the Central Bank.”
The two vacancies that will be opened and filled by Lula, of the nine boards that make up the BC, are the director of Inspection and the director of Monetary Policy, this one of the key positions in conducting interest rates.
“There are two names in nine, they are not going to change economic policy, but they signal important things”, said Haddad.
“They will make a contribution, which may not coincide with that of the president of the Central Bank, or the directors, but they will make a contribution in the sense of subsidizing the BC’s technical decisions. Whatever it is, they are technical names, and it will be received like that by the market, because they are absolutely technical names.”
