The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, told market interlocutors that he does not intend to interfere in the next exchanges in key posts that will take place at the Central Bank and that he intends to get closer to the president of the BC, Roberto Campos Neto, holding monthly meetings with them to approach monetary policy.
The reports were made in recent meetings between Haddad and market agents, according to the CNN . The minister would have said that he does not intend to make any judgments about the new appointments.
In February alone, two BC directors leave their posts, Bruno Serra (Monetary Policy) and Paulo Souza (Inspection). In conversations, he has also said that maintaining the minimum wage at R$ 1,302 and the increase in fuel prices are two battles that he intends to win internally in the government when he starts in the ministry.
For the time being, as anticipated by the CNN , he already got a signal from the Planalto Palace that the minimum wage will not be readjusted to R$ 1,320, as defended by the political wing of the government. He calculates that maintaining this value should give a positive signal to the market.
In a recent conversation with market interlocutors, he highlighted this point as one of the main internal “fights” to be won in the government. The other point reported by him is the increase in fuel prices, precisely his first defeat in the government.
Haddad and his team defended the end of fuel tax relief, but ended up being defeated by the government’s political wing, which feared an impact on inflation and, therefore, on the government’s popularity.
Haddad would also have said that the tax reform to be defended by the government is the PEC 45 that is in the Chamber. The minister’s forecast is that the proposal will be approved in the House between the end of April and the beginning of May.
The minister also said that he intends to deliver the new fiscal anchor in the first half of the year and that it should be based on spending control. But his interlocutors considered that this was the most backward point in relation to the others.
