At just 22 years old, Hadis Najafi had become a symbol of struggle for her defiant behavior during the protests in Iran against the repression of women. Unfortunately, on September 21 she died after receiving six bullet wounds in the face, neck, chest and one hand from the police in the city of Karaj, Iran.
Najafi went viral after the broadcast of a video where he appears taking off his hijabputting her hair up and joining the demonstrations in protest of the government for the death of Masha Amini, allegedly tortured and killed at the hands of the “morality police” for not wearing her veil correctly.

According to official figures, the clashes have left a balance of 40 dead, but the NGO Iran Human Rights, based in Oslo, Norway, has counted at least 54 deaths due to the repression. Meanwhile, Iran’s ultra-conservative president, Ebrahim Raisi, threatened to take “decisive action” and ordered greater restraint against “opponents of the country’s security and peace.”
