The government of his country demands that the Haitian authorities conduct an “immediate investigation” and act to release Carlos Guillaume “safe and sound”, according to a press release issued by the presidency.

The agricultural advisor of her embassy Dominican Republic in Port-au-Prince was abducted last Friday at noon in Croix de Bouquet, a suburb of the capital.

The abduction committed the 400 Mawozo gangwhich controls Croix de Bouquet and last October had abducted 17 American missionaries and their relatives, including five children, said a source close to the Dominican Foreign Ministry in the French Agency.

Mr. Guillaume is the first diplomat of the Dominican Republic who was abducted in Haiti, according to the same source.

The Dominican Republic Press reports that the gang demands a ransom of $ 500,000 for the diplomatwho was going to the border community of Himani, in the southwestern part of his homeland.

Gang violence in Port-au-Prince has turned into an open war – at least 18 civilians were killed in just a few days in the Haitian capital in late April.

The Haitian police, often faced with dramatic gang overreach, are unable to deal with the situation: they have lost control of entire neighborhoods and strategically important roads.
