Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad said on Tuesday (11) they submitted their response to the proposed ceasefire agreement for the Gaza Strip to Qatari and Egyptian mediators.
The armed groups also expressed “readiness to positively” reach an agreement to end the war in Gaza in a joint statement.
It is unclear whether or not groups accepted the proposal.
A Hamas member told Reuters that “Hamas’ response reaffirmed the group’s position that any agreement must end Zionist aggression against our people, withdraw Israeli forces, rebuild Gaza and reach a serious prisoner exchange agreement.” .
Egypt and Qatar confirmed that they had received the response from the radical groups, but did not provide further details.
Hamas says it accepts UN proposal
Earlier, a senior Hamas member said the group accepts a UN resolution supporting a plan to end the war with Israel in Gaza.
Nonetheless, it is unclear whether the response given to the mediators refers to the approved document in the UN Security Council.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighted that signaling a positive response from the armed group was “a sign of hope”.
