Hamas and Israeli government deny truce – Egypt blames Israel for crossing at Rafah

The Middle East is on fire. THE war in Israel continues for the tenth day, thousands of people have lost their lives and the Israeli government as well as Hamas deny rumors of a cease-fire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

After the information that spoke of a truce and its opening Rafa border crossing on the border with Egypt in a short statement the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear: “There is no truce and entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.”

“Crossing points are closed and no decision has been made” regarding the entry of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave, said Daniel Hagari, a spokesman for the Israeli army, during a press conference.

Izzat al-Risk, head of its press office Hamasalso stated that this information “is untrue”.

Besides, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry complained that the attitude of the Israeli government has so far not allowed the opening of the Rafah crossing, the only border crossing that is not controlled by Israel.

According to him, Egypt has been trying to keep this passage open since the clashes broke out, while he described the situation faced by the Palestinians in Gaza as “dangerous”.

On the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, humanitarian aid has been concentrated for the Palestinian enclave, but has not yet been able to enter it. According to eyewitnesses, the humanitarian convoys did not leave today from the Egyptian city of al-Arish, located about 40 kilometers east of Rafah.

“I hope to hear good news this morning in terms of aid getting into Gaza through Rafah (…) to help the one million people who have been displaced to the south and who were already living there,” said Martin Griffiths head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Emergency Situations (Ocha) as reported by the Athens News Agency.

More than a million people were displaced within a week, according to the UN.

The Israeli army indicated today that it will “refrain” from striking for some hours – from 08:00 to 12:00 (local and Greek time) – the evacuation corridors to the south

“For your safety take advantage of this time to move from the north and Gaza City to the south,” pointed out Avihai Andrae, the representative of the Israeli army at Platform X.

Besides, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced today that 2,750 residents of the enclave have been killed since October 7 and 9,700 have been injured.
