Hamas wanted to see the continuity of the ceasefire agreement with Israel when the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu resumed attacks on Palestinian territory, a militant group spokesman said on Tuesday (18).
“The interest of Hamas was the continuity of the agreement,” said Abdul Latif al-Qounated in a publication on Telegram, adding that the group is “dealing responsibly and positively with any proposal to end the aggression and suspend the blockade.”
This occurs after Israel Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmstein, accuse Hamas of rejecting “two concrete mediation proposals presented by US President Steve Witkoff envoy.”
Al-Qenou stated that Witkoff’s proposal “was on the negotiating table, and Hamas did not reject it, dealing with it positively.” He also said that “Netanyahu resumed the war to frustrate the deal.”
Al-Qenou added that Hamas is in “constant contact” with the mediators after the resumption of the attacks of Israel in Gaza, posting that the militant group “will continue to deal flexibly and positively with the mediators to repel aggression against our people and force the occupation to fulfill the agreement.”
