The Palestinian armed group Hamas has rejected the latest Israeli ceasefire proposal suggested at talks in Cairo, senior official Ali Baraka told Reuters on Monday (8).
A Hamas official previously told Reuters that no progress had been made in the talks.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said on Monday that a date had been set for an Israeli invasion of Rafah, Gaza's last refuge for displaced Palestinians, without disclosing that date.
“Today I received a detailed report on the negotiations in Cairo. We are constantly working to achieve our goals, first and foremost the release of all our hostages and the complete victory over Hamas,” Netanyahu said.
“This victory requires entering Rafah and eliminating the terrorist battalions there. It will happen – there is a date.”
