Hamas said a ceasefire and hostage release agreement in the Gaza Strip is possible if Israel stops setting new conditions, according to a statement on Tuesday (17).
“The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) confirms that, in light of the serious and positive talks taking place today in Doha, under the mediation of the brothers from Qatar and Egypt, it is possible to reach an agreement on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange if the occupation [Israel] stop imposing new conditions”, highlighted the radical group.
Sources informed about meetings related to the negotiations told the Reuters news agency that the signing of the agreement could happen in the coming days.
The understanding could stop the conflict and promote the release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

Israel has carried out intense airstrikes in the Gaza Strip since last year, after Hamas invaded the country and killed 1,200 people, according to Israeli counts. Furthermore, the radical group holds dozens of hostages.
