A senior Hamas official said on Wednesday that Israel's response to the group's latest Gaza ceasefire proposal was negative after mediators delivered it.
“On Tuesday night, our brothers, the mediators, informed us about the occupation's position regarding the proposal…it is a negative response in general and does not respond to the demands…In fact, it withdraws the approvals it had previously provided to the mediators,” Osama Hamdan said at a press conference in Beirut.
He claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government are responsible for the failure to negotiate the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and the end of the fighting in Gaza.
Ceasefire talks resumed this week in Qatar, but weeks of negotiations have so far failed to produce an agreement between Israel and Hamas that Washington hopes will ease the humanitarian crisis plaguing Gaza.
