Hannah Waddingham detailed his traumatic experience with a drowning scene in “Game of Thrones.”
The 49-year-old actress – who played Septa Unella in eight episodes of the hit HBO series – described a moment in which she had to remain “tied to a table with leather straps” for around ten hours, simulating drowning.
“Waterboarding” is a torture technique that causes a person to suffer a physical and psychological sensation similar to drowning. The scene required Hannah to be trapped upside down on a tilted board, with her mouth and nose covered while water was poured into her face.
Although she was left with emotional consequences, the actress stated that she did not mind, as she was immersed in the universe of “Game of Thrones” .
“Thrones gave me something I didn't expect, which was chronic claustrophobia. It was horrible. Ten hours of waterboarding… She was tied to a table with all these leather straps. I couldn’t lift my head because otherwise it would be very obvious that it was loose”, explained the artist during her participation in the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
“I had belt marks all over me, as if I had been attacked,” she continued.
“One of the other guys who was filming something else said, 'What happened to you?' And I told him everything and he said, 'You're lucky. I've been crawling for four days.' And we were laughing about how we were both on 'Game of Thrones,' and how nothing matters when you're on Thrones. You just want to do your best,” he joked.
