“Happy day when none are missing”; Mother’s Day concert breaks in Nuevo León

Last Monday, May 10, the Government of the State of Nuevo León, in Mexico, organized a concert to celebrate Mother’s Day on the Esplanade of the Heroes, an event that was interrupted by dozens of women who protested against the increase in femicides. and disappearances in that place.

Elements of the Civil Force tried to contain the protesters, who asked to lower the volume of the music because “there is nothing to celebrate” and shouted that “it will not be a happy Mother’s Day until there is none missing.” The events have not only shaken the hearts of locals and strangers, but have also echoed around the world, putting Mexico in the spotlight.

During the demonstration, the women recalled the inconsistencies that exist in the disappearance and death of Debanhi Escobar; In addition, they demanded justice for the femicide of Marifer Contreras and Yolanda Martínez.

Yolanda’s case ended up fueling claims against the authorities, since, while the government of Nuevo León was paying attention to the preparations for the great public celebration of Mother’s Day, Yolanda’s body was found in a vacant lot in the municipality of Juarez. Yolanda was a mother who disappeared while leaving to look for work and who was robbed of the opportunity to celebrate May 10 in the company of her family.

His case was riddled with negligence. The authorities did not give him the required attention, even when his father, Don Gerardo, reported his disappearance in a timely manner. In fact, it was not until Don Gerardo began a search by his own means and the case caught the attention of the main media in the country, that the authorities did the corresponding thing.

As for the demonstration, the women also questioned Governor Samuel García about the measures he will take in the face of the insecurity they are experiencing, since they are tired of living in fear.
