Harassment on the train, ten young girls victims and thirty suspects

After the sexual harassment reported by some girls who left Peschiera del Garda (Verona) traveling on the Verona – Milan train, the police identified about thirty boys. So far five (three from Milan and two from Pavia) have filed a complaint with the Milan railway police, but the girls harassed – as written in the complaints – would be about ten. They were returning home after a day spent in Gardaland on 2 June.

The victims of harassment are between 16 and 17 years old, and would be annoyed by a group of young men (described as “North Africans”) who would insult them and try to groped their private parts. The girls, with the help of another young man, managed to get off at the next stop in Desenzano, and then lodged a complaint. Investigators have already acquired videos from the station’s cameras and some footage that appeared on TikTok showing the crowd in the station and on the train. “We are reconstructing the events that took place on the beach and on the train. The investigations will continue on anything that may have criminal findings, ”the manager of the Verona Mobile Carlo Bartelli explained to the Corriere.

On 2 June there had also been a big fight between Peschiera and Castelnuovo del Garda. About 2500 young people from all over Northern Italy, but above all from Veneto and Lombardy, arrived in the area to participate in a rally advertised on the social TikTok. On the lakeside beaches, loud music and thefts have driven away other tourists, especially families. The person responsible for one of these thefts was then wounded with a stabbing weapon: his attacker was targeted by the group of the injured boy, sparking the violent brawl.

“To think that girls are harassed, harassed or that they are subjected to aggression in our territories does not exist,” commented the president of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia. “My appeal is that there is zero tolerance and that the police put their utmost effort into finding those responsible. We Venetians are used to a social relationship based on respect for people and rules. It must not pass the idea that facts like these can become ordinary or even, worse still, that one can get used to them. We have never even adapted to putting alarms in the house and thinking about locking ourselves in. I repeat, zero tolerance ».
