Harassment on the train, the father of a victim: “They were possessed, they could do anything to her”

A 17-year-old girl, for the first time on a trip to Gardaland, with her friend. One of the very young victims of harassment on the Verona – Milan train had left Peschiera del Garda to return home to the Pavese. She found herself trapped in a wagon, piled up, in the middle of a group of boys high. And she tried to call her dad, who she told the Courier those moments of true terror.

“When she told me they were all on her and she couldn’t even breathe I went crazy … my daughter was at the mercy of unscrupulous people and I was at home, helpless. If she hadn’t managed to get off in Desenzano, I don’t know what they would have done to her ». The girl rang the phone, but after a few words the line dropped. “She was afraid they thought she was calling the police. She spoke in monosyllables and hung up. She then she didn’t answer, so she sent a message: “Dad we are crowded, they don’t let us get off“. I begged her to move to another car and get off at the first stop. And she: “I can’t even turn around”. At that point I panicked. They were possessed and could do anything to her. I thought: maybe they will also be drunk … and if they have knives … ».

The father, in distress, tried to call the police. “I did and it was another nightmare. I called the Peschiera railway police numbers first, but no one answered. So I phoned 112, and the Peschiera carabinieri passed me. I explained to them what was happening and they told me it was not their responsibility and they would call the railway police. To which I yelled at him: “but is this the way to handle an emergency?“”.

At that point, he got behind the wheel. «Half an hour later the carabinieri called me and told me they were sending patrols to Peschiera. Too bad that in the meantime my daughter had already managed to get off, but in Desenzano ».

The girls were all together in a bar, still trembling with fear. ‘ They told «that they felt trapped, hunted, without anyone’s help“. The boys on the train “touched them, saying:” White women you cannot stay here … you are privileged “. When one of them had a panic attack and passed out they took off her shirt to air her, while they approached her face saying “I love you”. In the end they were only saved thanks to a boyalso black, who managed to push his way through the crowd, allowing the girls to open the doors ».

A few days have passed, but the girl “she is still traumatized, when she talks about it she cries. You think: it was the first time she went on a trip alone with her friend, who like her is 17 years old. As soon as I hugged her again, the first thing she said to me was: “In my life I will never take a train again” ».
