Harry and Meghan didn’t get married in secret three days before the royal wedding (at least not legally)

They told Oprah Winfrey they got married in secret three days before the official ceremony, held in Windsor on May 19, 2018, but the version of Harry e Meghan now creaks, thanks to the publication by the The Sun of the marriage certificate, issued as for anyone else by the General Register Office. And it is immediately storm. The date and place are unequivocal, but why should they have lied?

In the interview, the Dukes of Sussex had also involved the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who would officiate the ceremony in Nottingham Cottage, where they lived before the wedding.

«We called the Archbishop and told him: “The other will be the show for the world, but we want a moment just for us “, these are the words of the couple. Nottingham Cottage, however, is not an authorized residence for marriage ceremonies, and without the go-ahead from Queen Elizabeth, who must give her consent for every royal wedding, no ceremony can be celebrated, much less by the Archbishop of Canterbury. That’s not all: “In order for them to get married, a special license was drawn up,” said Stephen Borton, a former civil registry employee, interviewed by the Daily Mail: the queen herself signed it, recording the day and place of the ceremony.

However, there would be an explanation, as hypothesized by Borton himself: “I suspect they exchanged the vows that maybe they wrote themselves, something that is fashionable, and that they pronounced them in front of the Archbishop, or perhaps it was a simple test ».

That an exchange of vows without legal value for Harry and Meghan could have meant much more than the official ceremony is certainly plausible, but at this point that “moment only for us” takes on a completely different value.
