The Duke of Sussex and his wife met Mandela’s widow, Graça Machel, in 2019, during their royal tour in South Africa, but the ties between the prince and Africa go further, thanks to the intense work of the mother Lady Diana alongside the weakest, who found one of her fields of action right here privileged, thanks also to the relationship of esteem and friendship with Mandela, met even a few months before his death.

For the Sussex it will not be the first time at the United Nations, even in 2021 they were invited to the World Leaders Meeting, even if neither of them had taken the floor. For Harry and Meghan this will be the first high-profile journey from goodbye to royal life, in 2020, but also an opportunity to underline the desire to be engaged at the forefront in certain areas, from social to education, up to women’s emancipation. All things that they could have done even while remaining active members of Casa Windsor, but not with the freedom of now, which also touches politics and openly takes a position on the hottest issues, as Meghan did on the right to abortion.

An activism that, over time, could lead to something else. According to Daily Mail, the Duchess would aspire to work for the United Nations, like her friend Amal Alamuddin, wife of George Clooney, who was an advisor to former Secretary Kofi Annan. And it is precisely for this reason that she and her husband would be looking for a home in the Big Apple. Nothing for sure, at least for the moment, but you know, when the gossip starts to rumor, there is usually something true underneath. And among the many rumors, there is also what she would like the former actress alongside Harry on the Mandela Day stage. A hypothesis that could also materialize. What is certain is that he will be by her side, as always, to support him.
