No surprise. Only the awareness of how, today, success is the prerogative of online platforms. The Emmy nominations, announced Tuesday night, brought no upheaval with them. Nominated for television awards were well-known shows, many of which have already been awarded. There was The Crown, the most nominated of the TV series. Then, The Handmaid’s Tale, Bridgerton and also the discussed one Emily in Paris. Netflix, in total, has put together one hundred and twenty-nine nominations: one less than what Hbo did, the only (semi) linear broadcaster to still enjoy credibility and charm.
The US network, which also includes the streaming service Hbo Max, has achieved the highest number of nominations, also allowing Courtney Cox to receive her first Emmy nomination for Friends, not actress but executive producer. Behind it, it has left other streaming platforms: Disney +, with its own The Mandalorian, one nomination less than The Crown, e Wandavision, Hulu, con The Handmaid’s Tale.
The Emmys, whose awards will be officially awarded on September 19, with a ceremony live on television, have then made history. Mj Rodriguez, face of Pose, was the first transgender actress to be nominated for Best Lead in a Drama Series.
The only tiny twist? Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview garnered a nomination.
