Harry and Meghan, the announcement of the second child is a tribute to Diana

A beautiful black and white shot that looks like a scene from a movie, the tranquility of the garden of their Californian home as a frame: so Meghan Markle and Harry of England, on Valentine’s Day, they revealed to the world that they will be parents again.

To immortalize them, the photographer friend Misan Harriman, the decidedly not very royal announcement, very far from the meager press that had anticipated the arrival of the firstborn Archie, in autumn 2018. I Dukes of Sussex are, by far, the first members of a royal family to announce a pregnancy as stars usually do (and many common people too): with a couple shot and the tummy in plain sight.

Breaking with tradition, now that they are no longer real seniors, is more than legitimate, but there would seem to be a link with the past, and it could not be something more tender, a sweet tribute to Lady Diana. It was February 14, 1984 and the then 23-year-old princess announced that she was pregnant with her second child: Prince Harry would be born on September 15.

The choice of the Sussexes could also have other reasons: Valentine’s Day, after all, is the patron saint of lovers, what better day to spread such a romantic shot and give such good news, which comes, among other things, after an abortion? Moreover, Meghan’s belly is already clearly visible, perhaps the dukes preferred to personally communicate the pregnancy before someone else did it in their place. There is, then, another factor: the name of Eugenie of York’s eldest son, born on February 9th, should be released in the next few days. The two cousins, very close and always in contact, have taken the time to prevent their respective good news from overlapping, as is usually the case in royal families, when several events together risk clouding each other. The homage to Lady Diana, however, remains a more than valid hypothesis, considering the very strong bond of Harry with his mother and the profound respect that Meghan has always declared towards her figure.

The news of Meghan’s pregnancy also resolves some issues that have emerged in recent weeks, the “Confidential reason” thanks to which his lawyers have obtained a postponement to the autumn of the legal proceedings against the British tabloids, and why both she and Archie shouldn’t be following Harry to London next summer for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s birthday celebrations. The arriving baby could be Her Majesty’s 10th or 11th great-grandchildren: also Zara Phillips, daughter of Princess Anna, is pregnant: which of the two royal babies will arrive first? All that remains is to wait for the landing of the royal storks.

Meanwhile, congratulations have also arrived from Buckingham Palace: “The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and the whole family are delighted and wish them the best”. According to Daily Mail the royal family had been informed in advance, but no public congratulatory message reached Harry and Meghan from the accounts of The Royal Family. The silence that makes the most noise, for now, is however that of Kensington Palace. It is true that Kate and William had not publicly congratulated on the arrival of Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s son either, but this time it weighs a little more.
