The documentary series on the Invictus Games will soon be released on Netflix. The streaming platform has signed a contract with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who will themselves produce the program through their production company Archewell. Harry, who served in the British Army in Afghanistan and hosted the first Invictus Games in 2014, will appear onscreen for this documentary, titled Heart of Invictus, which will follow the preparation of wounded or disabled veterans for the 2022 edition of the competition. The series “will open a window to the moving stories of these contestants on their way to the Netherlands next year,” Prince Harry said in a statement.
This is the first audiovisual project of Archewell Productions, the couple’s company, which last September signed a contract with streaming giant Netflix to produce “hard-hitting” films and series. If the financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, it would span several years and grant exclusivity to Netflix.
Harry and Meghan are working on other projects
Several other projects are said to be in development, including series on nature or on inspiring women, but Meghan Markle, known for her role in Suits, has no plans to become an actress again. “It is clear that the Invictus Games hold a very special place in their hearts, and I am delighted that their first series for Netflix is showing them to the world, in a way never seen before,” said Ted Sarandos, Director of Content at Netflix.
Meghan and Harry had formalized their relationship during the 2017 edition of the sports competition. The Invictus Games, an international event like the Paralympic Games, take place in The Hague. Initially scheduled for 2020 and postponed twice because of the pandemic, they will finally take place in the spring of 2022. The series, which will follow the training of the participants, will also address their “powerful stories of hope and resilience”.
Prince Harry and Meghan left the British royal family, and moved to California last year.
