Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter Lilibet has been christened, a spokesperson for the couple announced on Wednesday.
“I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was baptized on Friday, March 3rd by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Reverend John Taylor,” they told CNN .
People magazine reported that Lilibet’s parents had invited King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales to the event, but they did not attend.
This announcement marks the first time that the title of Princess has been publicly used by Lilibet. She is entitled to it according to the usual protocol as the male-line granddaughter of the monarch. Just like her brother, 3-year-old Archie can be called a prince.
When Lilibet was born in June 2021, her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II was still on the throne. It was only when her grandfather Charles became monarch that she earned the right to be known as a princess.
While the Buckingham Palace website does not currently show this, a source told CNN that the site will be updated in due course.
