Harry and William, “the feud between royal brothers repeats itself” (one hundred years later)

“He grabbed me by the neck and pushed me to the ground: I ran into the dog bowl, which shattered». During one sensational interview to BTIa few days after the release of his memorial-bomb, Harry revealed it physical fight with brother Williamstaged – according to the story – in 2019 a Kensington Palace. This is yet another chapter of a stormy relationshipwhich brings to mind another famous feud within the English royal family.

In the first half of last century, in fact, something analogous happened between Edward VIIIthe direct heir to the throne who abdicated in 1936 for the sake of Wallis Simpsonand the brother Albertwho took his place on the throne under the name of George VI. The two – remember the Daily Mail – they spent a lot of time together in childhood, even if their tutor, Peter Hansellin 1907 noted that in the classroom the presence of one triggered the reaction of the othersuch as the “red rag” for bulls.

However Albert, who he stammered and is said to have lack of self confidencesaw his older brother as a sort of «mentor»: that’s why they basically went okay until adulthood, aware that the crown belonged to Edward. But when in 1936 it was time for him to actually take the throne, pandemonium ensued: despite the principles of Anglican church they forbade him, he declared that he still wanted to marry Wallis Simpsondivorced with two marriages behind.

“Until that episode, Albert – who thus became George VI – watched with great admiration brother Edward, he was counting on him. For this he lived the abdication as a personal betrayal», says the expert Alexander Larman talking to the tabloid. «In turn, however, Edoardo he felt betrayed by George because, once on the throne, he would never have conceded to Wallis Simpson the title of His Royal Highness». As, shortly thereafter, the famous women actually decreed patent letters.

“Edward’s wife and descendants, if any, do not hold the aforementioned title or attribute». And so, within a few years, the relationship between the two brothers shipwrecked: in 1937, at Edoardo’s wedding, «George didn’t show up and did not allow any other family member to participate» adds Larman. “There was a lot voltage, even in their correspondence. The two met again in 1939, then later in [1945: after the war, there was also an attempt to reconciliation.

«It was 1949 when Edoardo he asked again for his wife the title of Royal Highness», but to no avail. “So he blamed George and the discussion ended in a furious quarrel which essentially ended their relationship. The story of one sad fracturewhich one hundred years later – albeit with due distinctions – seems incredibly repeat.
