Fans of the franchise “Harry Potter” all over the world are suffering from the death of any actor who brought the characters of this universe to life on screen.
This Friday (27), the multi-award winning British actress Maggie Smith responsible for playing the strict but fair witchcraft professor Minerva McGonagall, has died at the age of 89. In addition to her role in the fantasy saga, she also played Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham in “Downton Abbey”.
Smith joins the list of beloved actors who appeared in the “Harry Potter” films whose deaths were felt by millions of fans around the world. Check out others cast members of the saga who have already died :
Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore)

Michael Gambon was the second actor to play Albus Dumbledore, from the third film in the franchise, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”. He died of pneumonia, aged 82, in September last year.
Alan Rickman (Severus Snape)

The actor’s death occurred in January 2016, at the age of 69, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. In 2005, he had already faced a diagnosis of prostate cancer, but managed to overcome it with treatment and was in remission.
Rickman played the beloved and hated Severus Snape, a potions professor who had a deep love for Harry’s mother, Lily Potter.
Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy)

Another loss was that of Helen McCrory, known for her portrayal of Narcissa Malfoy, mother of Draco Malfoy. In April 2021, the actress died due to cancer.
In addition to his landmark role in the Harry Potter saga, McCrory also left his mark on other notable productions, including the “Penny Dreadful” and “Peaky Blinders” series.
Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid)

Coltrane died in October 2022, at the age of 72, a victim of multiple organ failure worsened by a widespread infection.

The Irish actor played the role of Dumbledore in the first two films of the franchise. He died shortly after filming “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” in 2002, aged 72, following a battle with Hodgkin’s disease.
Robert Hardy (Cornelius Fudge)

Hardy played Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge in the film saga. He died at age 91 in 2017, with no cause of death disclosed.
Richard Griffiths (Valter Dursley)

The actor played the role of Harry’s uncle, Vernon Dursley, responsible for raising his nephew with Petunia Dursley after the death of his parents. Griffiths died at age 65 in 2013 from complications following surgery.
